Clinical profile of tinea capitis among rural children in Cuddalore district

Children are more susceptible to fungal infections. Hair infection by agents, also called trichomycoses, is one of the common concerns in human beings. Dermatophytes, Malassezia species and organisms causing piedra mycological agents hair Tinea Capitis (TC) an scalp shaft surrounding caused dermatophytes. Aim: To study clinical patterns tinea capitis rural children. Materials Methods: This a cross sectional study. A total 50 children with TC were included. Detailed history, Woods lamp examination microscopic using Potassium hydroxide (KOH) done. Results: Among children, 64% (32) had non- inflammatory type, 28% (14) type TC. Only two showed positive fluorescence Wood's examination. Out specimens subjected for KOH examination, 92% (46) results. Ectothrix was commonest noted 44% (22) cases followed mixed 26% (13) Endothrix 22% (11) cases. Conclusion: remains childhood many parts world. Earlier treatment can prevent complications like cicatricial alopecia, secondary bacterial infections significantly improves quality life affected
